This year the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville is celebrating its 10 year anniversary. The film center and media arts lab has become a centerpiece of the village it helped transform and bring more vibrancy to. Read more at the NY Times.

The NYC subway system has been shut down for the first time in its history due to weather as a result of the threat from Hurricane Irene. NY-area airports closed at noon today for arrivals, with departures continuing throughout the evening as weather permits. Get more details at Reuters.

Hurricane Irene is expected to arrive in NYC Saturday evening and remain in the area till late Sunday. Evacuations may be necessary for some areas of the city and the MTA may decide to shut down the entire transit system due to the extreme flooding potential.
